Millie’s mental health story

I invited people to share their mental health stories on my blog. I want to create a space where people can open up about their journey and experiences, and offer tips and advice on how they manage their mental health.

If you’d like to write about your mental health story on my blog, please follow this link and fill out the form.

Here is Millie’s story…

The modern day work ethic and internet has led people to believe living a stressful life is the norm.

My issues with mental health surround the area of stress, and dealing with excess levels of built up stress. I had never experienced anything until 2018, where I suffered my first, what I call, ‘stress attack’.

I did not get any professional or medical treatment for my mental health, however I did research and seek solutions to avoid the buildup of stress, or how to handle it. These include podcasts, yoga videos, blogs and books.

Whilst some people don’t identify stress as being a mental health issue, it seriously is. The modern day work ethic and internet has led people to believe living a stressful life is the norm. It shouldn’t have to be like this, and it can lead to negative consequences in the present but also the future.

What advice would you give someone suffering from the same condition as you?

I have made a previous blog post about ways to handle stress, but these include:

  • Incorporating yoga into my week.
  • Exercise – lift heavy to put the adrenaline from ‘fight or flight mode’ into something!
  • Breathe
  • Talking to yourself (it makes sense when explained)!
