4 Self care evening ideas

Self-care is so important and you can do it at any time during your week. I originally wrote this post as a self care Sunday post, but I figured every evening idea I have suggested, can be done whenever you feel like you need that extra bit of care. Your wellbeing is so important and by taking that extra bit of care in your downtime could make you more productive when you need to be. So what are you waiting for? Here are some ideas to help you relax into the night, so you can feel refreshed and prepared for whatever your week has in store for you.

Yoga

You may think you have to be super flexible and fit to practise yoga, but you don’t. It’s all about listening to your body and doing what feels comfortable for you. Even doing a flow for 10-15 minutes could help your mind and body enter into a lovely relaxation.

Yoga not only has numerous physical benefits, that can help you feel less tense in your body, it also has plenty of mental benefits too. It can help you sleep better, feel less stressed and anxious and it can improve your self confidence.

So let’s begin, firstly find some open space where you won’t hit or break anything in your house. Then put on some comfortable clothing. If you have a mat, roll out your mat, no worries if you don’t. Then you are ready to begin.

There are lots of yoga guides you can find online. Above I have attached a beginners flow from Tara Stiles YouTube. There’s also a number of apps you can download on your phone, I use Daily Yoga which I find very easy to follow.

If you have your own flow you prefer, then practise that. There is no right or wrong way to begin, but you must listen to the limitations of your own body, and don’t try and push past this. Just remember to breathe and enjoy the sensations of each stretch.

To add ambience and create a blissful environment you might like to light some candles and/ or incense and put on some peaceful music.

Face mask

I love relaxing with a face mask, it makes me feel like I am totally taking care of my body and skin. I remember as a kid me and my friend would always pick up the 7th Heaven face masks and use them at sleepovers.

I personally love the Dirty Works Mud Detox mask, it’s really affordable at only £5 and it leaves your skin feeling really refreshed. Before I use the Porefect Face Scrub, which has menthol in it. The mint is so reinvigorating and it makes your skin feel super soft. I’d like to point out here, that I have not been paid to write this, this is a genuine recommendation.

There are thousands more face masks on offer, so experiment and find one which is right for your skin. Let me know if you have any you think I should try!

Supper Snack

There’s no better time than a Sunday night to treat yourself to a tasty supper snack. I could tell you all about the healthy options out there, but I’m not going to, I’m going to tell you about my favourite one – crumpets with jam and butter (or jelly for all you Americans).

I remember when I was a child I would visit my grandparents who used to live in the countryside, me and my brother would go and stay for the weekend. In the evening we used to make crumpets and hot chocolate. It was always super cosy and chilled. Eating crumpets feels quite nostalgic and takes me back to happy childhood memories, so this is one I recommend.

You may have your own similarly fond snack, tonight is the night people it’s self care Sunday, you deserve this!

Herbal Tea

I’ve just recently started enjoying drinking herbal tea because I find it helps my anxiety and enables me to have a more restful sleep. In particular I love a sleepy tea, you can find them in most supermarkets. They usually include lavender and chamomile, the smell alone is a enough to make you unwind.

Additionally I was given a chamomile and honey tea after I had a Thai massage and that was like heaven in a teacup. The warmth, the honey aromas and the taste was divine.

Lemon and ginger teas are also great and they have added health benefits. Lemon is a good source of Vitamin C which helps maintain and repair your teeth and bones. It is also the perfect thing to drink if you have a cold as the ingredients help to boost your immune system. So if you feel like you need that extra level of care, then this is the one for you.

How do you like to unwind on a Sunday? Please let me know your suggestions in the comments below. Happy relaxing!

I love herbal tea. Blackcurrant was the first I drank years ago, but now for a number of years I have expanded my taste buds. I love chamomile tea too and with homey at times too.

I have done Yoga but Pilates seems to my thing. Especially stretches, which are important for me, but unfortunately slacked on this for about a year, so this post serves as a reminder.

I like Tai chi too and I have a few DVD’s to follow Tai chi lessons.

I love crumpets with butter. Never added jam before, so something to try there, together with hot chocolate too.
