How these FIVE famous people practise self care

We all lead busy lives, we’re constantly trying to juggles plates and get the right work, social and family life balance. This can sometimes feel IMPOSSIBLE, but it can be done. Here some of the busiest celebrities open up about how they practise self care.

Jess Glynne

Best-selling female artist Jess Glynne is very open about her feelings in her music. Her debut album was titled ‘I Cry When I Laugh,’ which included the number one hit, ‘Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself.’ They’re all very inspiring catchy songs which collectively crowned her the queen of UK pop and in 2018 she claimed the most number 1 hits for a British woman.

So where does Jess Glynne fit self-care in? Well luckily for her she has made a career out of doing something she loves. In an interview with The Sun Jess said: “When I write music, it’s like a self-therapy — something I do to release my own emotions, to say things I wouldn’t necessarily say to someone because I struggle with ­talking about it.”  

She also discusses the power of embracing our bodies, even when we’re naked. This is expressed through her song ‘I don’t wear make-up on Thursdays,’ because who she is, is enough. This is a very beautiful message to send to young girls and an interesting way to practise self-love.

Kelly Rowland

Ever wondered what makes Kelly Rowland happy? Well she told SELF that “massages and facials make me happy. I have to take time for me. I call physical therapists who help my body tremendously. I stay for two hours and let them rub me.” When we think of relaxing we often think of massages, so this is not a new technique, but it does work! Not all of us have ‘physical therapists’ on speed dial but it is easy enough and affordable to book a massage when done as a special treat once in a while.

The next self-care practice comes from Hermione Grainger. If her Harry Potter character is anything similar to her personality then you’ll know that Emma Watson deserves to relax. This is a very good tip and probably the easiest to do!

In Women’s Health Watson said: “I have a bath every single day of my life. And if I can have two or three – amazing.” Two or three baths a day? Now that would be the life!

Russell Brand

Russell Brand is not quiet when it comes to preaching lifestyle tips as he often discusses spirituality and life philosophies. Since kicking his drink and drug habits, he has spent many years soul-searching.

One of the techniques Brand practises is transcendental meditation which isn’t “a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle.” In fact Russell claims it helped him experience “a deeper state of happiness which is profound and absolute” according to Educate, Inspire, Change. These are very powerful words. Mediation can have the ability to change your life – now that’s something worth looking into!

Actress and singer Selena Gomez has grown up in the public eye, which comes with its own challenges. One being, online trolls. Imagine being sent death threats and negative abuse on social media at such a young age? To any kind and compassionate person this seems unfathomable.

Gomez posted on her own Instagram that she would be taking a break from social media, she said: “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember-negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings.”

Taking a break from social media is becoming more popular as many people today credit their online life as a source of misery. Constantly comparing your life to others can be exhausting and leave you feeling inadequate, so taking a break is definitely a good way to look after yourself.
